Shadow Puppet Workshops
Shadow puppetry is a strong traditional form in many countries and is a tremendously entertaining form of puppetry that is easy to create.
Kids create and design their own shadow puppets for performance. Using just white crayon, black card, scissors and cellophane, the children create extraordinary characters. Whether they make a dog that barks like a monkey or a talking teapot, kids learn how to create special effects using their two-dimensional puppets on a screen and they will see their creations come to life.
What happens:
- Introduction to the various styles of puppetry
Showing different types as well as drawing on the students own experiences. - Making shadows
Drawing with white crayon on black card to make the images, cutting them out and placing the rods, creating moving parts (depending on age of students). - Techniques of shadow performance
Working with the flat screen surface and learning useful ways in which to create effects. - Making plays
Group work with the images - creating plays from the images and construction scripts and sounds - working with music.
