Classroom Blitz

Sick of the way your classroom looks? Why not transform this every day, over familiar space into a wondrous landscape, and still be able to see the whiteboard!

In this brand new workshop, your students will be the design team behind Classroom Blitz.  Working with the room, the furniture, the objects and with a whole heap of new materials; students draw, sculpt and collaborate to change their work space into a place of dreams.

Classroom Blitz is an installation project that turns to children for inspiration and execution of design ideas, increasing their connection with their classroom and their peers by encouraging them to see everyday things from an imaginative perspective.

What happens:

1.    Introduction
The students heart about Polyglot and interactive spaces, finding out about installations and ways people have made everyday spaces special.

2.    Brainstorming including turn and talk time.
All the ideas go on the board – this is the wish list time when everything is possible.

3.    Drawing
On shared paper the students go through a series of abstract drawing exercises, loosening up their drawing arms and minds and trying a whole lot of new things in the process.

4.    Making
Students work with paper and masking tape to sculpt objects and characters , turning ideas into 3 dimensions. The resulting sculptures are connected within groups to make larger forms.

5.    Further design ideas brainstorm
Students decide what and how things will be changed in their room. Here is where all the functional  needs of the classroom are talked through.

6.    Jobs list and grouping of tasks
Students are asked to choose what they are most interested in to work on.  They are importantly following their interest as this will help them complete their self-allotted tasks. Here is also where the tutor will show the children the tools and materials they can use in their tasks.

7.    Activity - doing the work!
The students will work together and individually to make the space how they imagined.

8.    Cleanup
An important part of classroom functionality.

9.    Plan for the rest of the week
How does the classroom work every day? Can the “new look” stay up easily and safely?
