The Sydney International Festival of Films by Children began in 2012. The Festival exists to give Australian children under 13 years the opportunity to screen their films in an international context alongside their peers from all over the world. Children experience the way a cinema audience responds to their work, receive feedback from professional filmmakers, network with their peers and extend their skills.
SIFFC is the largest festival of child-produced films in Australia and is part of an international network of similar Festivals.
5678 Film Club is a three-year project which supports young people making the transition between primary and secondary school in Collingwood, Melbourne.
5678 Film Club runs as a weekly after-school film club where Polyglot Theatre and a small group of professional filmmakers undertake creative workshops, mentoring and building a peer network with up to 25 young people. These young people are co-creators of every aspect of the process, working with Polyglot artists to become acquainted with film-making skills and techniques so they can tell their own stories through film.
The key to this project lies in its long-term focus which is playing out across three years – as kids move through Years 5, 6, 7 and 8.
